Steganography and Arachniography

Steganography refers to hiding encrypted data or information inside of a common or completely innocent looking file such as an image, audio, or video file.
For all intents and purposes, most people will never be aware that the file is more than it appears to be, thus providing a nice hiding place in plain sight.
If someone does become aware of the ‘extra data’ in a file, it can be identified as encrypted data or information, but will be undecipherable without the decryption key.

An Arachniography is the web-based equivalent of a bibliography. Taking things one step further, an annotated Arachniography is the web-based version of an annotated bibliography.
Andrew J. Butrica of NASA was the person responsible for coining the term during his work on the history of NASA’s X-33 project.

Function Key

The function keys, typically labeled F1 through F12, are hardware keys on a computer keyboard reserved by the operating system or the current application to perform a given function. Common function key assignments include F1 to open the help file and F5 to refresh the content of the current pane (such as in a file explorer or web browser).

Function keys can frequently be combined with other key modifiers, such as the ALT or CTRL key. Pressing CTRL+F5, for example, changes the refresh in a web browser from a soft refresh (the browser reloads the page from the local cache) to a hard refresh (the browser completely reloads the page from the remote host).

Is Samsung preparing to drop Android?

The royalty that Samsung is paying Microsoft per Android device is unknown, but earlier this year Microsoft secured a similar deal with HTC where it gets $5 per Android device sold. With Samsung and HTC under its sway, Microsoft now receives royalties for over 50% of Android sales in the US; only the soon-to-be-owned-by-Google Motorola Mobility remains.
That resolution alone should be more than enough to send a shudder up Big G’s pant leg and across its jockstrap — but to add insult to injury, Samsung announced yesterday that it is now working with Intel on Tizen, a free, open-source, Linux-based smartphone OS. It will be derived from MeeGo, the critically-acclaimed but stillborn OS that itself was a merger of Intel’s Moblin and Nokia’s Maemo operating systems.
Android fragmentation
Now… why would Samsung sign an Android licensing deal with Microsoft, and then partner up with Intel on an Android-competitor OS? Could it be that Samsung only agreed to pay royalties to Microsoft because it foresees an Android exit strategy when Tizen is complete?
Paying a royalty is one thing, but Android OEMs can’t be comfortable with Google’s acquisition of Motorola Mobility either. Google already plays an odd closed-open game with Android’s source code, too — something that certainly won’t improve with Motorola becoming the “first party” Android OEM — and, more importantly, manufacturers that want early access to the source must agree to submit all of their changes to Google for approval.
Tizen will be a fully open OS hosted by the Linux Foundation, and steered by Intel and Samsung; very similar to how Mozilla runs Firefox. There won’t be any “hidden” branches, and OEMs (including Samsung) will be free to modify the codebase without having to appease a commercially-conflicted third party. Samsung could quite easily make Tizen look and feel like Android, too, and with some licensing deals it might be able to run Android (Dalvik/Java) apps. That’s the thing with Android: in essence, it is an open source project, and beyond the developer support provided by Google, there is no intrinsic reason for Samsung to stick with it. All of its functionality, look, and feel can be replicated — and in the process, it can waive the royalty it must pay Microsoft, and gain oodles of maneuverability.
Meanwhile, of course, we must not forget that Intel is Tizen’s co-founder — and Intel would absolutely love Samsung to build some phones around its upcoming SoC Atom chips

For as long as history can recall, mankind has thirsted for faster, deeper, and broader connectivity with other sentient simians. At its most basic, way back at the beginning, human language enabled us to connect with each other, and eventually neighboring tribes and societies. The written word took things to the next level, and we all know the importance of the printing press and later the typewriter. Eventually the telegraph emerged — speed-of-light communication over thousands of miles! — and a few years later, perhaps the most disruptive invention of all time: the telephone.
Our undersea cables might be fiber optic and our telephony network might be entirely digital, but for the most part we are still living in the shadow of the telephone. We’re not going to belabor the point, though; we’ve talked about the history of computer networks before, and you all understand the importance of the world-spanning web of wires and how they form the backbone of the internet that we know and love. Instead, we’re going to talk about the future of the internet.

Rampant consumerism

What do you think will happen when every home is connected to the internet via 100 or 1,000Mbps Ethernet or fiber?
The Pirate BayYour internet access would be faster and lower-latency, sure — and yes, you’ll be able to watch 1080p videos on YouTube and Netflix without bandwidth concerns. If music, movie, and TV publishers still haven’t pulled their fingers out, you’ll be able to pirate stuff really quickly, too. Ultimately, you’ll be able to do everything that you already do — but faster and with more flexibility.
The problem with this conclusion, though, is that it’s based on your current mental model of the web where you are a consumer. As it stands, the web is basically formed out of two networks: a very fast network of data centers that host the services that we use, and a low-speed network of spurs that extend from the nearest data center to your house. Fundamentally, the big difference between these networks is symmetricalness: internally, each of the data centers is connected to each other at gigabit speeds both up and down — your home connection, however, is nearly always biased towards download speed.
As consumers of content on the web, though, this makes sense; a faster upload speed doesn’t help you watch videos on YouTube or download the latest episode of Naruto any faster, after all. This isn’t to say that upload bandwidth isn’t helpful — the army of live and life streamers on sites like Justin.tv and Ustream need a couple of megabits at least — but generally, it is download speed that we’re interested in, and as a result it is download speed that ISPs optimize their network for.
Inexorably, though, our home and office connections are going to get faster. There are already huge swaths of Sweden, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and other territories that are connected at symmetrical speeds between 50Mbps and 1Gbps via VDSL, Ethernet, and fiber — and judging by the worldwide government-level pressure and funding, more countries are sure to follow. At some point in the not-so-distant future, then, we’re all going to be connected to the web at LAN-like speeds — 100 megabits per second up and down — and this, just like the advent of the telephone, will change the world as we know it.

Yes, symmetricalness is a word

You see, once we are all symmetrically connected to each other, the internet will finally become democratic, or at least 100 times more equal than it is today. You might be under the illusion that the web as it stands is democratic — that everyone has an equal voice — but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The fact is, Google or Twitter or Facebook could turn around tomorrow and ban every single American from its services, and there is nothing you can do to stop it. Twitter and other forms of social media have definitely made the web more democratic, but we are still just consumers of delicious, commercial web services.
If we all had symmetric 100Mbps internet connections, however, it would be different. Instead of storing your data with Google or uploading your files to Dropbox, you could store the files at home or in the office on a network-attached storage device. You wouldn’t even have to bother with long-term, offline backups, either: if everyone’s connected at 100Mbps or faster, and we all have terabytes or petabytes of hard disk storage, then all you need is a backup buddy: you store your important files at his house, and he stores his at yours.  In other words, you will have permanent, free, available-from-My-Computer access to every digital file you’ve ever created — try doing that with a cloud storage provider. In fact, with symmetrical web connections, the cloud would have a rather nebulous (!) fate indeed.

Hubbub

Then there’s the other web services: at the moment you use Gmail or Hotmail, but if you had a 100Mbps connection at home, why not host your own mail server? The same goes with streaming video: why not just store a ton of videos on your home computer and stream them to wherever you might be? Symmetric connections completely rewrite the rules of file sharing, too: just check out Sweden with its city-wide DirectConnect and FTP hubs with petabytes of movies, music, TV, and applications available 24/7 at crazy download speeds. They could use BitTorrent or Hulu or Megaupload, but why bother when you can get everything from your friend across the road?
Tron Legacy lifecycleWith a symmetric web, these hubs will spring up all over the place — but unlike the ones in Sweden which cannot extend into other countries where connections are slower, these hubs will span the entire world. Instead of your entire life being represented by a handful of bytes in amongst Facebook’s faceless sea, symmetric connections will enable the web to become metropolitan. Your presence on the web will be your home. Rather than being virtually connected to your friends through a list on a social network, the symmetric web will fashion physical connections. Instead of uploading a file and sharing a link, you will click My Friends from your Windows 10 start menu and simply drag the file to a friend’s computer. Instead of connecting to a centralized World of Warcraft server with thousands of random players, one of your friends could run the server instead. Web servers, mail servers, chat servers — you name it, with a fat pipe to the internet, they could all be run locally beyond the reach of Google, Facebook, and even the federal government.
Finally, because this would still be the internet, you would be free to hop between these hubs. It would be like moving to a new city — a new, physical Facebook group — but faster. There might be gated communities, of course, and you might lose touch with your friends — but that’s how the cookie crumbles.
The end result would be a truly decentralized internet that closely mimics human settlement and society. There will still be nodes on the internet where more people congregate — the bars, clubs, and McDonalds of the real world — but for the most part, a symmetric web would let people hang out and connect with the people they care about, and ignore everyone else.
Of course, at this point we have to point out that Google itself is currently laying its own super-fast fiber network. Google, in its infinite wisdom, has either realized that the internet will eventually fracture into decentralized hubs and wants a piece of the infrastructure — or it thinks that in 10 years, even with gigabit connections, we’ll still be slurping down YouTube content and wiping our greasy chins with Gmail. Either way, Google wins: 100Mbps-to-the-house is the future, and if I had any money I would plow every last cent into the internet.

Log in to LIVE Messenger by using Gmail id



Yesterday while chatting with my friend I came to know that she is using her Gmail id with Live Messenger to chat with me. As a big fan of Microsoft products I was quiet surprised to see how come I don’t knew this. So I searched across and found some relevant information which I would like to share so that you can also use Live Messenger with Gmail or any other email id you want.

Google+ has evolved a lot in a short time but apparently it is far behind the popularity and user base as that of Facebook and Twitter. Google+ recently introduced the much awaited ‘Pages’ for brands and businesses, so that anyone can connect virtually with their favorite brands or companies. The official Gmail page on Google Plus recently made a post notifying users about the unknown Chat emoticons in Google+ chat.
There are over 15 funny emoticons that you can use while chatting to smartly express your humour, joy, love or angriness. Apple iPod: 10 Years of the Ubiquitous Media Player


A decade ago, Apple launched an MP3 player that can be partly attributed with shaping the landscape of today's mobile computing market. Along with being the best-selling portable media player and saving Apple from near irrelevance, the iPod influenced many of Cupertino's ambitious and revolutionary projects, forcing much of the industry into a perpetual state of catch-up. Apple's iPhone birthed the smartphone as we know it and stands as the top-selling device of its kind -- likewise with the iPad and the tablet segment, despite Microsoft's early dabblings. Software-wise, the iTunes Store paved the road for digital music sales and represents the world's largest music retailer, while the App Store's sales dwarf all the competition combined -- Android included.
In fact, the iPod and related products prompted Apple to change its name from "Apple Computer, Inc." to just "Apple Inc.” Without fawning over Apple's every endeavor, we'd like to pay homage to the company's game-changing gadget on its 10th birthday. Join us as we take a brief stroll down memory lane.

First iPod 5, 10GB -- Oct. 23, 2001
The first iPod was developed in less than a year and although it didn't flip the music industry upside down overnight – in fact received a lot of criticism – it laid the conceptual framework for grander things to come. Powered by a dual-core 90MHz ARM-based PortalPlayer processor and 5GB 4200RPM Toshiba HDD (a 10GB version came later), the rudimentary device only supported Mac computers as well as AAC, MP3 and WAV audio files. The first version of iTunes for Mac was released the same year in January. Also: Watch the first iPod being introduced by Steve Jobs.
iPod 2nd Gen 10, 20GB -- July 2002
Apple's second-generation music player arrived less than a year after the original device and brought several refinements including a cover for the FireWire port, an improved Hold switch and double the storage capacity. It also abandoned the first-gen's mechanical scroll wheel in favor of the touch-sensitive wheel used on many future iPods. This model introduced support for Windows via Musicmatch, prior to this tech-savvy users were forced to use workarounds for Windows compatibility.
iPod 3rd Gen 10, 15, 20, 30, 40GB -- April 2003
By April 2003, Apple prepared a full redesign of the iPod, adding an all-touch interface, a dock connector, a slimmer body and the maximum storage capacity was doubled to 40GB. The company also brought its own media platform (iTunes 4.1) to Windows, severing ties with Musicmatch. The iPod's increasing popularity prompted retailers Best Buy, Target and Dell to carry the device between 2002 and 2003. Microsoft and Creative prepared their rivals, the Media2Go and Nomad Zen.
First iPod Mini 4GB – Jan. 2004
After focusing on adding features to its original design, Apple went back to the drawing board and introduced a scaled-down minimalist iPod. The $249 iPod Mini was the first to have Apple's Click Wheel and only offered 4GB of storage. Despite its slimmer, trendier design, many criticized the device's value. Around the same time, Apple replaced its $299 10GB iPod with a 15GB model, forcing retailers to reduce the 10GB model to $249. This caused consumers to be even more skeptical of the Mini.
iPod 4th Gen & iPod Photo 20, 30, 40, 60GB -- July 2004
The first fourth-gen version came in July with a redesigned Hold switch and the iPod Mini's Click Wheel. In October, Apple introduced a premium version called the iPod Photo ($499-$599), which had improved battery life (15 hours versus 12), a color screen and support for common image formats, which was especially cool for album art. In February 2005, Apple replaced the 40GB iPod Photo with a thinner, cheaper 30GB model. By June, it decided to merge the iPod Photo and iPod “Classic” lines. (Picture shows first U2 special edition iPod).
iPod Shuffle: First and 2nd Gen Jan 2005 & Sep 2006
Shrinking its media player further, Apple introduced the first iPod Shuffle in early 2005. It served as an entry-level model with only 512MB or 1GB of storage and no display. Pricing was originally set at $99-$149. The second-gen Shuffle arrived well over a year later. It was roughly half the size of its predecessor with a belt clip and a more attractive aluminum case. Apple called it the "most wearable iPod ever." Despite its smaller size, it doubled storage capacities to 1GB and 2GB.
First iPod Nano 1, 2, 4GB -- Sep. 2005
The second-gen iPod Mini landed shortly after the first Shuffle and offered an incredible battery life of 18 hours (the first Mini lasted 8 hours). It also introduced a 6GB model along with minor cosmetic tweaks. The Mini line was discontinued later in 2005 when Apple shipped the first iPod Nano, which was essentially a smaller version of the Mini (half the thickness and roughly 11mm narrower). However, it had less maximum storage (4GB max versus 6GB) and a shorter 14-hour battery life.
iPod 5th Gen (Video) 30, 60, 80GB -- Oct. 2005
2005 was a monumental period for the iPod. Along with refining the fourth-gen iPod and releasing the Mini 2, Nano 1, Shuffle 1, Apple unveiled a completely redesigned fifth-gen iPod with a thinner case, a larger 2.5-inch 320 x 240 screen, and support for common video formats such as MP4 and H.264. The latter feature earned it the nickname "iPod Video." Additionally, sales skyrocketed 400% to 22.5 million units this year, dwarfing all previous years combined.
iPod Nano 2nd Gen 2, 4, 8GB – Sep. 2006
Compared to the year prior, 2006 was fairly mild for the iPod, though its sales remained strong and represented nearly half of Apple's total revenue. It brought a new version of the increasingly popular Nano, which offered a scratch-resistant anodized aluminum casing, more color choices, a brighter display, double the storage size and a huge boost in battery life from 14 to 24 hours. The second-gen Shuffle was also released, as was a 80GB version of the fifth-gen iPod.
First iPod Touch 8, 16, 32GB -- Sep. 2007
In an ironic twist, considering the iPod is arguably responsible for the iPhone's creation, Apple introduced the music player's greatest overhaul. Utilizing existing iPhone hardware and software, it was the first iPod to feature a multitouch display and Wi-Fi, the latter of which allowed users to browse the Web via Safari as well as access the iTunes Store and YouTube. It only lacked the iPhone's cellular connectivity and services along with its speakers and camera.
iPod Classic and iPod Nano 3rd Gen 80, 120, 160GB / 4, 8 GB -- Sep. 2007
The "Classic" branding for the traditional iPod didn't come until its sixth generation. Apple's latest addition shed the familiar white polycarbonate front plate for silver anodized aluminum and it abandoned the special edition models. It also had a thinner shell, a revamped user interface, and offered up to 36 hours of music and 6 hours of video playback.

Although the iPod Touch garnered much of the spotlight during Apple's launch in September 2007, the company also unveiled a promising Nano revision that scraped the rectangular shape in favor of a smaller, nearly square design. It was 19mm shorter and 11mm wider than its predecessor with the same storage capacities and battery life. It more than doubled the resolution from 176 x 132 to 320 x 240 and received a Cover Flow interface. Some folks criticized the third-gen Nano's lack of a touchscreen.
iPod Nano 4th Gen 4, 8, 16GB -- Sep. 2008
iPod Nano 5th Gen 8, 16GB -- Sep. 2009
The fourth-gen Nano reintroduced the elongated shell, though Apple managed to shave 0.5mm off the thickness and 12.5mm off the weight despite adding a larger display, more storage, as well as an accelerometer for horizontal viewing (videos, namely) and the ability to shuffle songs by shaking the device. This design was refined the following year as the fifth-gen iPod Nano gained a larger screen, a camera, an FM radio, a speaker, a pedometer, improved jack placement and a polished paint job.
iPod Touch 2nd Gen 8, 16, 32GB -- Sep. 2008
iPod Touch 3rd Gen 32, 64GB -- Sep. 2009
As with the iPhone, the iPod Touch remained largely unchanged through its first few revisions. The second-gen device received a tapered chrome back, volume buttons and a built-in speaker. More importantly, it was the first iPod to ship with Apple's recently launched App Store. Unsurprisingly, the third-gen iPod Touch mirrored the iPhone 3GS' changes, which included a quicker processor and graphics core, more RAM, Voice Control support, and a model with 64GB of flash storage.
iPod Shuffle 3rd Gen 2, 4GB -- Mar. 2009
Although Apple refreshed the second-gen Shuffle several times with new colors, the series went nearly three years without a serious overhaul. Its successor shipped in March 2009 with twice the storage (4GB), a smaller body that was reminiscent of Apple's first Shuffle design, and a completely new interface. Instead of hardware buttons on the device itself, Apple moved the volume and playback controls to the right earbud cable and introduced VoiceOver functionality for hands-free control.
iPod Nano 6th Gen 8, 16GB -- Sep. 2010
iPod Shuffle 4th Gen 2GB -- Sep. 2010
The sixth (and current) generation iPod Nano borrowed elements from 2007's iteration but it delivered what the third-gen couldn't: a touchscreen. The device features a 240 x 240 multitouch display and given its 1.47 x 1.61-inch dimensions, Apple cut its predecessor's camera and video playback, but retained functionality relevant to active users like the pedometer. Meanwhile, the fourth-gen iPod Shuffle essentially serves as an entry-level Nano without its touchscreen interface and accelerometer.
iPod Touch 4th Gen 8, 32, 64GB -- Sep. 9 2010
Some three years and four generations after the first touchscreen model, iPod sales began a noticeable decline -- a fate largely induced by the iPhone and competing Android handsets. The line between portable music players and smartphones (especially the iPod Touch and iPhone) has grown incredibly blurred. Nonetheless, the fourth-gen iPod Touch represents Apple's finest offering to date with a high-res "Retina" display, Apple's A4 SoC, as well as front and rear cameras for FaceTime and video recording.

For those geeks out there who used to do things in windows 8 with keyboard shortcuts, below is a list of all the shortcuts you can use on windows 8.
Global Keyboard Shortcuts For Windows 8 [ Works Everywhere ]
  • WIN + Q – open search.
  • WIN + Z – flip open applications.
  • Win + Spacebar – change the language / keyboard layout.
  • Win + Y – in time to show the desktop.
  • WIN + W – search on the parameters of the system.
  • WIN + F – Search for files.
  • WIN + I – open a new “Start” menu – “Settings”.
  • WIN + K – open a new menu “Start” – “Connections.”
  • WIN + K – open a new menu “Start” – “Connections.”
  • WIN + O – disable screen rotation (turn off the gyro reaction to the tablets)
  • WIN + C – open a new “Start” menu.
  • WIN + V – switching between notifications.
  • WIN + Shift + V – switching between notifications in reverse order.
  • WIN + Enter – run utilities Narrator, which reads aloud the titles and contents of all the opened windows.
  • WIN + PageUp – move the tiles to the left.
  • WIN + PgDown – move the tiles to the right.
  • WIN + Shift +. – Move the separator [screen] to the left.

Windows 8 Start Screen [ Metro UI Shortcuts ]
  • Just start typing with a keyboard in the Start screen to quickly search and launch applications.
  • Find additional applications (e.g. accessories generally found in the Start menu) can be found in the application list by clicking on the “Search” charm.
  • New shell keyboard shortcuts:
    • WIN+Q for application search
    • WIN+W for settings search
    • WIN+F for files search
    • WIN+I for “settings” charm bar
    • WIN+O for rotation lock
    • WIN+C to bring up simple “Start menu” and time/date
  • Most old shell keyboard shortcuts also work: e.g. WIN+D activates desktop, WIN+R opens “Run”, WIN+L locks user. WIN+E opens Explorer.
  • In mouse mode, activate the options/charms by moving the mouse to the bottom left edge (where the Windows button used to be).
  • In mouse mode, right clicking activates in-app options.
  • With a keyboard, you can use the arrow keys and page up/down to select tiles. Enter launches them. The “menu” button (the key with a drop down) selects them.
  • Make sure to check the “settings” charm in applications to reveal app-specific settings.
  • Enable the “high contrast” mode in Control Panel > Ease of Access to see a dark themed Start screen (above)
  • Press the windows keys twice to toggle in between the last app opened and windows 8 start screen
Windows 8 Windows Explorer Shortcuts
Press ALT. The tape shows tips for each button. Now press:
  • A – to open the “special features”
  • C O – to copy the selected items.
  • C P – copy the path to the file / folder.
  • C F – copy the folder (use the drop-down list)
  • D – delete the selected.
  • E – edit the selected files.
  • H – to show the history of file versions. I think the mechanism will be used by shadowing.
  • M – move the files (using the drop-down list).
  • N – Create a new folder.
  • P S – insert label
  • P R – open properties.
  • P E – Open With …, select the application again using a drop-down list.
  • S A – select all.
  • S N – deselect.
  • S I – invert the selection.
  • R – rename a selected file (s).
  • T – cut
  • V – to paste.
  • W – to create a new document, choose the template – using the drop-down list.
